MINIATURE DYSTOPIAN LANDSCAPE

Pinewood Studios - Creative Media Skills

MATERIALS

Cardboard boxes, piping, bolts, bits and bobs, mosaic mesh, Fast Cast plates, alien eggs, spray paint, acrylic paint, polystyrene carved rocks, fake metal fencing, Fillite, pebbles, fairy lights and a smoke machine.

Henrietta constructed this epic model over four days, with eight other prop makers.

Metallically aged buildings were made out of a cardboard boxes and lit with fairy lights. Fake rocks were carved out of polystyrene, and various other elements, such as sunken water holes, bridges, lampposts, signage and fake metal fencing were added to dress the scene. The forced perspective was obtained by placing bigger objects in the foreground and smaller objects in the background.

To create the illusion of greater distance, a cardboard building silhouette was placed at the back with a sheet of opaque plastic hung in front. To give the scene a dusty/desert look and texture, Fillite and miniature stones were spread over the base of the model, completing the epic, dystopian, space-aged look.
